{"id":946,"date":"2012-05-24T17:03:22","date_gmt":"2012-05-24T15:03:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.worldofart.org\/current\/?p=946"},"modified":"2018-07-25T13:11:36","modified_gmt":"2018-07-25T11:11:36","slug":"sasa-nabergoj-and-time-for-a-new-state-nsk-folk-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldofart.org\/arhiv.worldofart.org\/current\/archives\/946","title":{"rendered":"Sa\u0161a Nabergoj and Time for a New State + NSK Folk Art"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WORLD OF ART<br \/>\nSchool for Curators and Critics of Contemporary Art<br \/>\nSeason 14<br \/>\n1st Year (November 2011\u2013June 2012)<\/p>\n<p>Workshop: Friday, June 1, 2012, Calvert 22, London<br \/>\nLecture: Saturday, June 2, 2012, University College London<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>TIME FOR A NEW STATE <\/strong>is part of a London wide presentation of <strong>Neue  Slowenische Kunst (NSK)<\/strong> in cooperation with <strong>Tate<\/strong>, who was hosting a  Symposium (14 April), and which was also comprised of a music performance at  Tate Modern&rsquo;s Turbine Hall (14 April), an exhibition of archival material at <strong>Chelsea  Space (Chelsea College of Art) <\/strong>and a seminar at <strong>UCL. <\/strong><br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n<strong>TIME FOR A NEW STATE <\/strong>is the  first UK  retrospective of <strong>IRWIN<\/strong>, the visual arts component of NSK<strong>, <\/strong>founded  in Ljubljana (Slovenia) in  1983. This ambitious display features seminal projects from the past twenty  years including a special adaptation of <strong><em>Transnacionala <\/em><\/strong>(1996), an  interactive installation enabling participants to become NSK citizens and have  their own passports created. Also on display is <strong><em>Kapital <\/em><\/strong>(1991), a  site-specific installation that mixes taxidermy with religious icons,  appropriating and recycling the symbols of past totalitarian governments and  utopian art movements.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em>In collaboration with the History of  Art Department, University College  London<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Workshop with Sa&scaron;a Nabergoj (SCCA&minus;Ljubljana),  Friday June 1, 10am&minus;5.30pm, Calvert 22<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Self-historicisation  as Artistic Practice: The Case of IRWIN<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.worldofart.org\/arhiv.worldofart.org\/aktualno\/wp-content\/2011-13\/irwin-retroavantgarde.jpg\" alt=\"Irwin, Retroavantgarde\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This  workshop explores the strategy of artistic self-historicisation, focusing on  the particular case of the Slovenian collective IRWIN and their project <em>East  Art Map<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p>Participants  will spend the day at Calvert 22 within IRWIN&rsquo;s <em>Time For A New State<\/em> exhibition. The programme will focus on placing the work of IRWIN in a  socio-political, ideological and cultural context, while also offering an  overview of their artistic practice. Please Help to Construct It<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Saturday 2 June, 2&minus;6pm, University  College London <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Speakers include Charles Esche, Gediminas Gasparavi\u010dius,  IRWIN, Sa&scaron;a Nabergoj, Milena Tomi\u0107 and Jonah Westerman.<\/p>\n<p>This symposium will explore IRWIN and their project <em>East  Art Map<\/em> in relation to strategies of self-archiving, self-historicisation  and re-enactment in Eastern European art.
