Curating-In-Depth, a project prepared by SCCA–Ljubljana, Planting Rice from the Philippines and Kurziv from Croatia, is concluded with the Curating-In-Depth online publication.

The first part of the project was held in Ljubljana and in Zagreb from 3 to 16 May 2015. SCCA – Ljubljana hosted six curators and artists Antares Gomez, Kenneth Paranada, Siddharta Perez and  Shireen Seno from the Philippines, Isabel Ching from Singapore and Moe Satt from Myanmar, Antonija Letinić, the representative of the organisation Kurziv from Zagreb, Anupama Sekhar, the Director of the Culture Department of ASEF and Turkish artist Borga Kantürk. The programme aimed at international guests and participants of the World of Art, School for Curators and Critics of Contemporary Art was held in the Project Room SCCA and other art venues in Ljubljana and Zagreb. We have prepared curatorial mapping, a guided tour around Ljubljana and Slovenia, where we have visited many art venues, artists’ studios and other exhibition spaces.

The second part of the project was curatorial mapping of art scene in Manila, the Philippines, prepared by Planting Rice from 27 July to 8 August 2015. Participants from Slovenia, Barbara Borčić, Dušan Dovč, Miha Kelemina and Simona Žvanut, the representative of the organisation Kurziv from Croatia, Antonija Letinić, and participants from Southeast Asia, Lian Ladia, Renan Laru-An, Ricky Orellana, Siddharta Perez, Simon Soon, Angel Velasco Shaw and Jenifer Wofford (USA), came together to discuss and present artistic and curatorial practices that contests the contemporary in critical non-linear art histories, alternative organizational infrastructures through a series of events, discussions and a three-day symposium. A talk on the issue of archiving in video and experimental cinema accompanied the discussion.

In the third phase of the project participants designed the e-publication CURATING-IN-DEPTH Toolkit, which includes the exchange of documentation, educational materials, lectures and discussions. The toolkit is designed as a collective diary of impressions, insights, opinions and memories of our experiences. It is published on the websites of all partner organizations, where you can find, download and print your own copy.

Curating–In–Depth, prepared by two main partners SCCA, Center for Contemporary Arts – Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Planting Rice (the Philippines) and associated organisation Kurziv (Croatia), is an incubation project between non-governmental institutions from Europe and Asia, whose goal is the development of curatorial education. It connects initiatives in the field of curatorial practices and the production of visual arts exhibitions, which share the same approach (we call it the curating-in-depth), but are rooted in different cultural environments and artistic milieus.

Project Curating–In–Depth is one of the three projects that have been selected for the support in 2015 through the fourth edition of Creative Encounters: Cultural Partnerships between Asia and Europe, launched by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), and its partners the Arts Network Asia (ANA) and the European network Trans Europe Halles (TEH). Through Creative Encounters, ASEF, ANA and TEH actively foster connections across cultures by supporting artistic collaborations, exchanges and dialogues. Together, they aim to reinforce Asia-Europe exchanges with the objectives of deepening mutual understanding between cultural communities in the two regions, enhancing the mobility of artists and cultural professionals, and encouraging creative collaborations.
