Creative School Workshops Accompanying the Friends with Benefits Exhibition

On Friday, June 5, 2026, we conducted two multi-part workshops for primary and secondary school students at the Škuc Gallery, held in conjunction with the Friends with Benefits exhibition. During these creative workshops, participants explored the work of the artist collectives featured in the exhibition and reflected on the processes and changes that occur within friendship groups over time. Beyond understanding art as a powerful form of communication, our programme goals were to encourage participants to reflect on and discuss the significance of the groups they belong to, their individual roles within those groups, and the interpersonal relationships they form. Participation in the workshops was free of charge.
Community Mobile Workshop
In the first part of the programme, students engaged in an interactive guided tour – featuring artworks from the exhibition, games, and discussion – to reflect on their interpersonal relationships, shared experiences, and the themes that connect them. In the second part, under the guidance of the workshop facilitators, they created a large mobile sculpture. This piece was composed of smaller objects crafted by the participants from various materials (cardboard, Styrofoam, rope, etc.); together, these elements formed a mosaic representing the bonds within their group. They took the finished artwork with them to display at their school. The workshop was attended by a group of students from the Janez Levec Center Ljubljana.

Stencil of Friendship Workshop
In the first part of the programme, the students reflected on interpersonal relationships, shared experiences, and the themes that connect them through an interactive guided tour involving the viewing of artworks, games, and conversation. In the second part, under the guidance of the workshop facilitators, they translated these reflections into a visual symbol. They created cardboard stencils featuring motifs representing the class’ shared history and then transferred these designs onto canvas tote bags using spray paint. The participants took the finished products home with them. Two classes from the Ljubljana Secondary School for Preschool Education, General Gymnasium, and Art Gymnasium participated in the workshop.
